Joyce Woods
Escrow Assistant
My name is Joyce Woods. I was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the fourth of ten children. I grew up in George West, Texas and graduated from George West High School in May, 1975. I then took Business Secretarial Courses at Bee County College the summer of 1975 and 1976. I am the single mother of two, my son, Tommy Woods served in the Air Force for ten years and is now an IT technician and my daughter, Shannon Woods Contreras is busy being a mom herself. Between both of my children, I currently have seven grandchildren.
I have been in the title industry since September 16, 1980. My very first position was called the “take off” person. Some veterans in the business may recognize this terminology. What this means is that I went to the county clerk’s office where I had a desk set up in the back with a typewriter and I would get all of the documents that were recorded the day before and transpose the information onto an index card, take them back to my office and file them under that subdivision, general name, etc. From there I worked up quickly to processing files, ordering payoffs, surveys, etc and then when the company was sold, as part of the sale, I became the assistant manager and closer. The attorney that I had started with also had me learning and preparing legal documents for his law firm which helped me immensely to understand what I was preparing and why those particular documents were needed, which also gave me an advantage in the title industry.
In 1992, I moved from the small town of Beeville, Texas to San Antonio, where I took a position of Escrow Assistant at San Antonio Title Company which was the title company that handled all of Ray Ellison’s new home sales and within three months, graduated to the position of Escrow Officer. Kaufman and Broad bought out Ray Ellison and in 1998 I was offered a transfer to Houston, Texas to open up a San Antonio Title Company for the Kaufman and Broad office on Richmond Avenue. I have family here, so I took the offer and that is how I ended up here in Houston.
I am currently working with Jarrett Perkins who is a Fee Attorney for Vision Title and already have customers that I have been working with since I have been here in Houston and feel confident that anyone would be extremely satisfied with our professional ethics and knowledge. |
